28/31 days of being honest: cake pops

The girls were so excited to make cake pops–a few weeks ago we bought them at Starbucks–4 cake pops for $1!  An awesome deal–because you know I won’t pay full price–not matter how GOOD they look!

So I bought this mix–buy 2 get one free and then I had $1 off coupons on all three boxes. I let the girls do this project and as I came in and out I realized that it was not my idea of a good time.

I thought it was a FAIL but the kids will eat anything!  The brownie pops turned out much better than the regular cake pops.  For the record–I chose not to be involved in this project again.

I could not find my colander . . . they are sort of pretty.

trying to save the cake pops . . . I just covered them with chocolate and globs of the white wafer chocolate.

Back many, many years ago I was a pastry chef–this was a painful experience for me–but since the kids had a blast and didn’t seem to mind . . . I kept quiet and enjoyed them enjoying the time together.  I have to keep telling myself that I no longer work in a professional kitchen . . . I’m a mom making memories . . .

Be Blessed in whatever you do today . . .

27/31 day of honesty: kitchen hub

I get the mail, stop off at the recycling bin, unload the junk and bring the “important” stuff in.

Then where does it go?

In the old house–Oh, how I’m getting tired of hearing myself say that!  It is like trying to translate slang into another language . . . my old way of doing things is getting lost in the translation.

I love my new house–I’m feeling better as I get each room organized but . . .  areas still need help!

I’ve always wanted a “desk” in the kitchen and this kitchen certainly lends itself to having a desk area–I’m not at that point yet–but I do need a place to get my family organized.  I think I have found my solution!

This picture is a lie–I cleaned before I took it–normally it would have a few toys, library books to go back, maybe a couple of the kids sweatshirts . . . a dumping ground.

So on a typical day I open my blue organizational binder and it is open along with my paperwork for the day . . . or things that need to come and go.

BUT NOW

This is my new way of organizing all that stuff!  I did find a few treasures along the way!  I love finding things . . .

I love this! I purchased it from Ballard Designs and it is perfect–now I have room to make this space an office–except that I would need to stand . . .

I still get to keep all the little things that help make my days brighter along with the necessities of the job.  Next project here is the bill paying center . . . in the move I have lost my letter writing and my bill paying “centers”–

I’m thinking that I’m not the only woman drowning in papers and bit and pieces each day . . . feel free to share your ideas.

Be Blessed.

10/26/12 Frugal Friday Deals

This week I found some great deals in our local Dominicks store–to be honest and this is my 31 days of honest . . . I’ve been a little uninspired in the kitchen so I go “trolling” for ideas.  For those of you who have not grown up fishing–“trolling” is a way of catching fish, by driving the boat really slow in hopes that something will bite.  So I push my cart really slow through the store and wait for fish to jump in my cart–or a deal!

These are the deals that I found this week:

tea at Target–$4.64 on clearance for $2.32 and then I used the $2 off coupon that was on the box!  I bought 4 boxes of tea.  I drink a lot of tea and I’ll give some of this to the PADS group that I help out with.  I also have the Target red card–so really it was and extra 5% off 32 cents!

At the grocery store, I discovered a few new places where they put clearance food–these items are 50% off!  I do not buy meat often but when they have organic or Laura’s beef on sale or in clearance I clear the shelves!

this is not a brand that I normally buy–but I love adding it to soup because it doesn’t fall apart like other pasta

my favorite pizza sauce

I love this cheese–especially when it is 50% off!

Last week I also found pies in the frozen food section–they had pumpkin, sweet potato and Apple Streusel–all Sara Lee brand–normally I bake my pies so I had to buy one just to see if it would be ok for PADS.  My family thought it was great.  So I bought several more (50% off) and a group of us (the entire Moms group) will bake them up and prepare a Thanksgiving Feast for 50 people who are in need.

My plan is to share each Friday how I’m able to be frugal.  I’m linking up with Frugal Fridays!
