5 Lunch Box L.O.V.E. Notes #4

This weeks lunch box L.O.V.E. Notes!

Did you miss week 1?

Or week 2?

Week 3?

Week 4

How can it be the fourth week of school already?  Time is fleeting!  What began as a slow start is now full throttle!  High School soccer, travel soccer, middle school cross country, band, art club, engineering club . . . I enjoy my kids embracing all of the opportunities that they have available to them.  Yeah, it is a pain in the tukus to cart them here and there–but it’s part of the job I love the most–being Super Mom (and being joyful doing it!).

Super Mom–that sounds like I’m really full of myself–but I’m not.  I put my kids first!  I only have this short amount of time with them and I want to be the absolute best–so if I’m a Super Mom or Rockstar Mom . . . the label doesn’t matter, what matters is that I’m there for my kids 100% of the time.  The huge caveat is “when they need me.”  When they don’t need me–I’m a hippy food writer trying to save the world.

I love this weeks love notes–they plant seeds of goodness:

  • I respect others.
  • I am brave.  (this week especially as my middle schooler gets glasses!  Wearing glasses to school for the first time takes bravery!)
  • I listen to others.
  • I show love.  (for one on my kids I made this a fill in the blank.  I felt like she needed to figure out how she can show love in her OWN way.)
  • I love me!  (this goes back to my namaste theme that I constantly reinforce.  We need to see the light of love in ourselves first.  We can’t share something that we don’t already have.

[Tweet “How will you stock pile some love so when you need it you can give it freely.”]

Our children our a blessing–they need us to show them we love them and they are our miracles!

5 Lunch Box L.O.V.E. Notes #3

This weeks lunch box L.O.V.E. Notes!

Did you miss week 1?

Or week 2?

This is the second week of school and . . . let’s just say it has been an adjustment.  My #3 kid is having a more difficult time.  You see, when I homeschool, I teach in a completely different way than Common Core Standards.  I refuse to teach in a way that lets me check a box in celebration that my kid understands a subject.  I’m not a box checker.

I am proud to “Draw Outside the Lines”

My philosophy on life, love, teaching is all the same–everything is interconnected.  Everything!  My teaching style could best be described as Inquiry Based Learning.   When we look at the whole picture and try to understand the problems, solutions and all the glitches involved–we become part of the solution.  Rather than looking at an issue at arms length we stand knee deep within the problem forcing ourselves to figure out the most gentle way to get out.  We rely on compassion rather than force.  We rely on kindness versus being a bully. We rely on honesty versus slyness.  To help facilitate this in our kids we can assure them that these traits are superior.

This week I have supported my kids with reminders from the movie “The Help”.  Remember the scene, You is smart.  You is funny.  You is important.  I used that this week!  All in one not but you could use it over three days :-)

  1. Good Luck on your spelling test!  (I can’t spell–it’s true!  I’m horrible at spelling.  For this note I spelled “spelling” and “test” incorrectly as a inside joke.
  2. You are enough!
  3. I am loved.
  4. I am a good listener.
  5. I have a surprise waiting for you when you come home!

5 Lunch Box L.O.V.E. Notes #2

This weeks L.O.V.E. Notes!

First week of school went well.  When I saw the girls during “the sign of peace” at the school Mass–one was bouncing off the walls excited and the other was a teary eyed mess.  It ended up being a “hug of peace” and lots of reassurance .  As I sent her back to her teacher I cried all the way back to my pew.  (I cry a lot.  I always have–I’m a total emotion matcher.)  As I knelt down, on my knees praying for my little girl–I remembered that I had put a super encouraging note in her lunch box.  At that moment my world was all right again.  I knew that she would know, I intentionally set aside time in the crazy morning to put a loving note in her lunch box.

That is my why of lunch box notes.  So my kid knows in the middle of the day I’m sending love and light!

  1. I am smart.
  2. I am funny.
  3. I am kind.
  4. I am loving.
  5. I show others I care.

These are a little different from last week.  I like to put in notes that say “you are” that is me affirming them BUT I also think it is hugely important for them to affirm themselves.  To learn to love ourselves is important for all of us.  We need to accept the light within us, given by the Divine, and love ourselves first, then we can spread that love to others.  (I was going to write that today anyway–it just so happens that Fr. Trout’s homily was about that!)

Namaste

I see the light in myself and honor it.  (first) I see the light in you and honor it. (second) The light that we see is the collective divine.  It is what connects us and makes us all brothers and sisters.  (keeping in mind that siblings fight! but with respect can come to a understanding.)

Helping our kids see that the light shines from within them is fundamental.  Give it a try and see how your kids change as they stop looking for external approval and seek it from the Source.  Amazing things happen.
