Five minute Friday–Cherished

On Friday’s I like to participate in a “free writing” activity.  It is called Five Minute Friday and a bunch of us write for five minutes with no editing (I spell check–otherwise it would not be readable:-)  Come join some other bloggers to see what they are writing about

Cherished

My word for 2013 is Intention.  I am going to strive to make each thing I do come alive with purpose and intention.  This is a project that was born not on 1/1/13 but rather back in Novermber when I did an accidental 31-days series on “being honest.”

As I wrote and poured my heart out, I realized that I cherished all of the wrong things.  I spent a lifetime collecting things and when I didn’t feel cherished I ate my way to a place that made me feel better.

I realized that I hadn’t let myself feel cherished.  I hadn’t let myself be loved.  Just because I’m me–I had to prove my worth to be cherished.  But that is a lie–I’m loved.  It starts with God and then the true friends that he has put in my life . . . . I’ve missed it.  I was confused.

The most important things we cherish can’t be collected, broken or  . . .

The most important things are the blessings from God.  To be blessed and to be a blessing.

STOP

Thanks you Lisa-Jo.

My Creative Home

In my mind I have an awesome home–the counters are always clear and shiny, the floors always have those fresh vacuum lines, the clothes are always put neatly in drawers, my bathrooms smell clean and a bit like bleach (even though I don’t use bleach anymore), the sun shines through windows without fingerprints, my kitchen sink is empty, the dishwasher is empty, washer and dryer empty and there is no lint hiding . . . my books are arranged on shelves, pictures are in albums or even better–I scrapbook!

But the reality is . . . my house is very lived in and very comfortable.  My dining room table is big enough to accommodate any guest at any time (even though the table is really too big for the room), my bathrooms are clean enough and my kitchen looks nice for about 5 minutes/week.  I’m ok with it.  I’d rather have a home that fosters creativity than one that is clean.  I love hearing the piano several times a day for varying intervals, singing solos and duets, a quilt in the making or a beading project that was stalled . . . in order to pick flowers and herbs.

I tell my kids:

if you can learn to make things–you can have something new everyday!

I have a blogging friend name Renee (love that name) and she has written a book about being creative–in your own way.  I’ve read it and recommended it to several friends.  It is inspiring.  It validated my choice to be creative when I might be too busy to do it the way I had when I was single or before kids.

Nurturing Creativity: A Guide for Busy Moms

I’ve read this book over and over and each time feel like my creativity really is nurtured!

Common Ground Weekly Newsletter

This Friday I am launching my first newsletter!  I’m excited to have another outlet to share resources that might not fit into one of my blog categories (the classroom, the cookbook, the journey, the creative home).

I’ll let you in on a little secret–I like to learn tons of things, I like to check out 20 books at a time from the library and skim them all in an afternoon, I find cool stuff on the web . . . and I want to share it.  I ramble.

Oh my.  How I ramble.  (Like right now I want to tell you about a lady I took care of when I worked 2nd shift in a not so nice nursing home . . . her name was LeEtta and she rambled.  She followed me around my entire shift . . . and we talked AT each other.  She was the best part of that job.)

The newsletter will NOT be about me rambling . . . it will be:

  1. A weekly wrap up of my posts–in case you missed any.
  2. A give away–a sort of free etsy store/ebay–I have probably more than 52 weeks worth of freebies–this week it will be this pair of earrings.IMG_1972
  3. A quote of the week.
  4. And something random–a check in on my 70 lb weight loss quest, a review of a book, a recipe . . . you get the idea.

Be Blessed.  I pray that this newsletter might grow into a great resource and be a blessing.
